How We Work
For our International “Blankids” campaign we
involve American children in making fleece blankets for orphaned children
worldwide.
In "Blankids” we work with middle schools that offer classes on Home Ed. We
provide fleece fabric for participating schools as well as guidance on how to
make no-sew blankets. With the direction of Home Ed teachers the kids are able
to make real-life twin size blankets (one blanket per participating child). The
blankets are two-layered, tied up at the ends. The kids cut stripes around the
edges and tie them together. Each layer is of different color which makes a
blanket reversible and suitable for both boys and girls. The dimensions of a
blanket is about 60" by 72". We suggest that each "blanket-maker" attaches a
little heart (made of some other fabric) in the corner of the blanket with
his/her name on it.
We are proud to report that during the school year of 2009 - 2010, three hundred
and three (303) middle school children participated in the program (which
resulted in 303 blankets). Once the blankets were delivered to the country of
Georgia, we received heart-warming thank-you letters and photographs of Georgian
kids holding our blankets and smiling from ear to ear. The letters and
photographs were passed along to participating schools. Through these efforts we
have made a lot of kids happy, including the ones on the American side.
In addition to involving children in making blankets, Children Helping Children,
Intl, organizes musical concerts performed by exceptionally gifted children. The
proceeds from the concerts go towards shipping cost of delivering blankets to
the orphanages. By participating in fundraising concerts and by sharing their
talents with the community, these mega-talented children are most definitely
"helping other children".
At Children Helping Children, International, we are working to establish not
only humanitarian support, but also emotional and social support to
disadvantaged children worldwide. In this light, American children and their
peers overseas exchange letters, notes and illustrations in hopes of developing
long lasting relationship and connections.
Children Helping Children, Intl, is a project of United Charitable Programs, Inc - a registered 501(c)(3) public charity.
